Veterans Day

veteran

Where would this nation be without the men and women that have bravely defended our liberty and way of life? We owe a great debt of gratitude to our veterans whose sacrifices cannot be measured.

According to the U.S Census Bureau, based on 2015 figures, there at are nearly 19 million veterans living in the United States. Of that number roughly half – about 9.3 million – are now over the age of 65. California, Texas and Florida each have more than 1.5 million veterans. Their service and sacrifices have left many with scars visible and non-visible. Last year there were four million veterans with a service-connected disability – a condition resulting from disease or injury while serving on active duty.

One-third of these service connected disabilities are considered severe. Many states still struggle to solve the access to quality healthcare for their veterans. This includes access to much needed mental health resources. As our nation continues to grow and change the healthcare landscape lets make sure our veterans are not left behind.

On behalf of our entire healthcare system I want to thank all of our UMass Memorial veterans for their selfless service. You have earned and deserve this day of recognition.

Thanks to all of you for your great ideas and for taking great care of our patients and each other,

Eric
